KBC the trickster !!
We all want to be millionaire and we expect that happen over-night. Yes there are few who have became an billionaire through gambling , share-marketing , merger of company and the list can go on.....
Today lets explorer the trick behind the TV game show 'KBC' and their revenue details :
Details :
Lets consider that KBC charges INR 5/- for an SMS in sms contest !
India all together have 28 states , 7 union territories , 640 districts !
Total Population = 130 crores
Lets consider 1% of population = 1.3 crores
Generally the show is aired for 35 mins ! (remaining 25 mins for ads which we will discuss later!!!)
A season has 50 episodes
Now the assumption part is over for which HERE comes the MATH part which will be hard to digest for many !!
Assuming 1.3 crore people are making calls/SMS : 1.3 cr X 5 = INR 6.5cr
So the total per season : 6.5 cr X 50 = INR 325cr
As a margin of error and condition where the SMS contest response is between 0.5% to 1% then , on a average we can reduce the revenue to around INR 250 cr.
Now comes the AD's !!! We probably cant predict that and my sources say 3.5 lakhs for 10 seconds
Hence the MATH goes like 3.5 lakhs X 25mins X 6 = 5.25 cr per episode
= 5.25 cr X 50 episodes
= INR 262.5 crores
According to 2013 edition of KBC ,it was said that Shahrukh Khan got 75lakhs per episode which in total gives him around INR 38crores
Grand Revenue/Expenses :
total earning = 250 cr + 262.5 cr
total expense = 38 cr + 50 cr (production cost) + 3 crores(prize money) + 150 crore(30%Taxes)
= 241 crore
Hence profit = 270 crores
Now if Computer jii asks you an question : "Who is the crorepati here" A) Television group B) network providers C) the host D) Production company
