Technological races among nations.
Every era comes with vision of
global peace, usually named for the hegemon of the time. Romans had the roman
era, Mongols had pax mongolica, Brittan had pax Britannia, and today pax Americana.
None of these periods had a stable peace. Each hegemon in their era had
superior military advancements compared to others. For example, USA have edge
over nuclear weapons, aircraft carrier fleets, and long-range bombers, among
other technologies. From the history we can deduce that the technological and
military advancement among nations determine major supreme power. In near
future, technology which is going to rule over the world is A.I (artificial intelligence).
A.I at present
At present, A.I is in the earlier
stages of development (Particularly in military field), comparing with
Automation and digitalization. These two fields had a radical effect on today environment.
Today A.I intelligence plays a role in plays voice recognition, product
recommendation platforms and navigation tools. These tools rely on computer
alogorithms and solve problems in similar or superior to the method followed by
humans. Currently A.I expenditure in military areas is valued at 6.7 billion
dollars (2017). One can say that Transition of A.I is from “science fiction movie to a science fact”
FUTURE A.I
Even though U.S.A is the birthplace
for A.I, other nations are exploring the opportunities in A.I vigorously. Three Supreme nations U.S.A, China and Russia
are competing with each other on A.I race and particularly exploiting its capability
into military applications in order to exert global power. U.S have higher edge
in military application, but in present scenario china and Russia are bridging
the technological gap by investing massively on technologies which “specifically
designed to blunt U.S. strengths and exploit U.S. vulnerabilities.” Let us see
about future of A.I in three nations separately.
CHINA:
Leaders and economist in china
view that growth of A.I as an integral part of economy. It had already set the aggressive
targets by 2030.China understand the global impact of the issue on the world dedicated
its team on research for A.I. It laid out a plan that takes a top-down approach
to explicitly mapout the nation’s development of AI. China invested $1 billion
in building a national quantum-information-sciences laboratory, a new
technology field that could significantly push AI advancement forward.
RUSSIA
In recent speech delivered by
Russian president Vladmir Putin had emphasized said Aritifical intelligence is
the future of the man-kind. He ended the speech by saying that country which
dominates A.I race will be ruler of the world in future. Russian leader also
stated that future battle field will be populated with learning machines. As a
result developed a comprehensive military modernization plan Many of Russia’s
AI demonstrations are military in nature, like AI-assisted fighter jets and
automated artillery.
U.S.A
USA have to face stiff competition
with china as the china investment falls below a small margin compared to USA investment
on A.I. China beats U.S.A on number of papers published on International Joint
Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) in 2017 indicated China totaled
a majority 37 %, whereas the U.S. stands at 18%.But USA researchers were awarded the most awards. China have a upper hand due to large amount of population and Lax protection data laws.In 2017, USA
implemented project maven particularly dedicated to produce algorithms to
combat big data and provide machine-learning to eliminate the manual human
burden of watching full-motion video feeds. By December 2018 , It is expected
that algorithms will be completed with the help of startup companies and it
will be experimented over the battlefield.
We can conclude by saying that
winners of A.I race will become supreme authority over others by exerting its applications
on each field on the earth be it building the bridges or sending the rockets to
space or finding a life in another planet and so on!
